Long Awaited UFC Fight Set For Super Bowl Weekend

The super-fight between former UFC Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and the current UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo has been rescheduled for early 2013, promotion officials revealed Tuesday on Fuel TV’s UFC Tonight.

The match between Edgar and reigning featherweight king Jose Aldo is expected to take place February 2 2013, which is a day before the start of this year's Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

Aldo and Edgar were suppose to face each other in the headliner of UFC 153, which was held earlier this month in Brazil. But that didn't happen due to Jose Aldo's motorcycle accident, which basically forced a delay of the match-up. Aldo ended up hurting his foot and was pulled out from the fight. In the end, the bout between him and Edgar was pulled from the card and the floor was given to Anderson Silva and Stephan Bonnar.

We all aware of the fact that Aldo will enter this fight holding the featherweight title and of course we cannot forget his 14-fight wining streak. On the other hand, Edgar will enter the match with two lost matches, both against the current UFC Lightweight champion Benson Henderson, which took place last year.

However, if Frankie Edgar were to beat Jose Aldo he will join Randy Couture and B.J. Penn as the only men to hold UFC championship belts in different weight classes.

For the record, Randy Couture was the first man to accomplish this back in 1997, when he faced Maurice Smith and won the UFC heavyweight title. Then in 2003, he defeated Chuck Liddell and won the interim light heavyweight belt.

While in 2004, B.J. Penn defeated Matt Hughes and won the welterweight title and he did the same in 2008 when he defeated Joe Stevenson and won the vacant lightweight title.

Just a reminder that Aldo had to cancel a pair of fights due to his injury this past January in Brazil. He was expected to face Erik Koch earlier this year, and had also signed to fight against Edgar. However due to his injuries, the fights had to be canceled.

However, this time it is official. The fight between Aldo and Edgar will go down on February 2. And let me just tell you that this fight has been waited for a long time now and fans haven't stopped buzzing about it ever since it was canceled. The real UFC fanatics are desperate for this fight.
